Sgt. Fred Foster served with 8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters, service no. 4976755. He was wounded and captured on 23rd April 1940 during the first battles of the war in Tretten, Norway. After spending over 2 years in Stalag XXA in Poland and following a daring escape to the Swiss border, he was transferred to Stalag 383 where he ran the underground radio and distributed copies of the news in English.
